16U Open Winners Crowned at 2023 Beach National Championship

The 2023 Beach National Championship held in Ft. Lauderdale this week concluded with the announcement of the winners in the 16U open division for both girls and boys. This prestigious event serves as the culmination of the USA Volleyball Beach Tour, a year-long collaboration between USA Volleyball and the nation’s 40 USAV regions. Competitors in the open division secured their berths by placing among the top four at Beach National Qualifiers, while athletes in the American division earned their spots at a Beach Regional Qualifier.

Boys 16U Open

Brock Harvick and George Stevens showcased their skills as they advanced through the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over Alexander Brey/Zachary Jarboe. In the semifinals, they faced tough competition from Malachi Brewington/Titus Lance, requiring three sets to secure a 15-13 victory in the decider. Harvick and Stevens then went on to face Asher Gill and Luka Sazdov in the gold medal match. They clinched victory with a closely contested 21-18 win in the first set, followed by a 21-15 win in the second set, claiming the top spot on the podium. Brewington/Lance took home the bronze medal.

Girls 16U Open

Hannah Taylor and Ella Keeven demonstrated their prowess in the Girls 16U division with a dominant performance. They secured a 2-0 win in their morning match, setting up a quarterfinal clash with Clara Evans and Alina Ryan. The quarterfinals were decided with one match to 28 points, and Keeven/Taylor emerged victorious with a 28-21 score. In the semifinals, they faced Elena Lam/Brielle Taylor, triumphing in two sets (21-17, 21-17) to secure their spot in the gold medal match. There, they faced the team of Brielle Dorish and Catherine Hamilton. Keeven and Taylor started strong with a commanding 21-3 win in the first set and closed out the championship match with a closely contested 21-18 score in the second set. Lam/Taylor secured the bronze medal with a two-set victory over Juliana Johnson/Allison Spittal.
