Brazil Defends its Turf against U.S. Men

The U.S. Men’s National Team faced a tough challenge in the 2016 FIVB World League against the world’s top-ranked team, Brazil. The match, held at Carioca Arena in Rio de Janeiro, resulted in a 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22 victory for Brazil. Despite the loss, the United States team remains focused and ready for their upcoming matches in Rome against Belgium, Australia, and Italy.

The U.S. Men started slowly in the match, struggling in the early sets. However, they showed their resilience in the third set, taking a commanding 19-13 lead and winning 25-22. They also had a strong start in the fourth set, leading 19-16, but Brazil fought back to secure the win in front of their home crowd of 9,573. Brazil’s blocking and receiving were particularly impressive throughout the match.

Unfortunately, the U.S. team faced another setback when starting middle blocker Max Holt rolled his ankle in the third set and had to leave the match. Despite his absence, the team continued to compete. Matt Anderson led the scoring with 19 points, followed by Taylor Sander with 11 points. David Lee had a team-high four blocks. Reid Priddy made a significant impact off the bench with five kills and two blocks.
