U.S. Women’s Team Falls to Puerto Rico at Pan Am Cup Final Six

The U.S. Women’s Team put up a valiant fight at the Pan American Cup Final Six but unfortunately couldn’t overcome Puerto Rico, resulting in a 3-1 loss (25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 25-20) on Monday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The U.S. Women’s Team, with a record of 1-1, will be seeking redemption in their upcoming match against Canada (0-2) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. PT.

A Closer Look at the Match

Despite leading in kills (50-40) and blocks (17-13), the U.S. Women’s Team couldn’t match Puerto Rico’s performance in aces (11-5) and had five players scoring in double figures, compared to the U.S. team’s two.

Individual Standouts

Avery Skinner, outside hitter for the U.S. Team, led all scorers with an impressive 19 points on 17 kills and two blocks. Stephanie Samedy, who started the first three sets as an opposite hitter, contributed 11 points on eight kills and three blocks.

Kendall White, the team’s libero, provided exceptional defensive play with 17 digs and 15 excellent receptions. Skinner also showcased her skills with 19 excellent receptions.

Alli (Stumler) Linnehan and Roni Jones-Perry, starting as outside hitters in different sets, each scored seven points. Nia Reed, a backup opposite, made an impact in the third and fourth sets, contributing five points with five kills.

Tori Dilfer, the starting setter, demonstrated her versatility with four points on one kill, two blocks, and one ace. Bergen Reilly, the backup setter, added a point with a kill.
