Men’s Update: College Season Finale

As the men’s NCAA season comes to a close, players with ties to USA Volleyball are being recognized for their outstanding performances. Let’s take a closer look at some of the notable names and achievements from the season.

Big West Conference Honors

T.J. DeFalco, a member of the Men’s National Team from Long Beach State, has been named the inaugural Big West Player of the Year. This is a significant achievement, considering that the conference debuted this year. Additionally, Alan Knipe, former National Team Head Coach (2009-12), and also from Long Beach State, has been named Coach of the Year.

Standout Freshman

Joel Schneidmiller from UC Irvine, who played on the Boys’ Youth National Team, has been named the Big West Freshman of the Year. This is a testament to his talent and potential.

All-Conference Team

Several players from Long Beach State have been included in the Big West All-Conference Team. Kyle Ensing and Josh Tuaniga, both of whom played on youth and junior national teams, have been recognized for their contributions. Ensing also had the opportunity to play on the 2017 Pan American Cup Team. Pat Gasman and Joe Worsley from Hawaii, Scott Stadick from UC Irvine, and Arvis Green from Cal State Northridge have also earned spots on the All-Conference Team. All of these players have represented their country at youth and junior national levels.

Other Conference Honors

In the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA), Mark Hulse, Loyola’s Head Coach who has coached USAV High Performance teams, has been named Coach of the Year. Jeff Jendryk, a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team from Loyola, has also been recognized as an All-Conference player. Collin Mahan, who played on the Youth National Team, has also earned All-Conference honors.

In the EIVA, George Huhmann from Princeton, who played on the Men’s Junior National Team, has been named to the all-conference team.

NCAA National Championships

The NCAA Men’s DI-II National Championship tournament has already begun, with Ohio State, the two-time defending champion, convincingly defeating King University, the winner of the Conference Carolinas, in straight sets. The competition will continue at Pauley Pavilion in Westwood, Calif., with UCLA as the host. The championship game will be held on May 5.

Volleyball Nations League

Tickets are now available for the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, where the U.S. Men’s team will be facing Serbia, Poland, and Iran. The matches will take place on June 15-17 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Updates from Italy

In the Italian league playoffs, Aaron Russell, James Shaw, and Sir Safety Conad Perugia are currently tied with Taylor Sander, Micah Christenson, and Cucine Lube Civitanova. The teams are vying for the championship title, with the most recent match resulting in a victory for Civitanova.

Polish League Semifinals

Dan McDonnell and Trefl Gdańsk have reached the league semifinals and are set to face PGE Skra Bełchatów. Despite a loss in the first match, Gdańsk will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming games.

Russian League Finals

Matt Anderson and Zenit Kazan have advanced to the final of the Russian league tournament and currently lead Zenit St. Petersburg. Anderson’s impressive performance has been key in their success.

French League Playoffs

Michael Saeta and Chaumont emerged victorious in the semifinals of the French League playoffs against Mitch Stahl and Paris Volley. This sets up an exciting final match for Chaumont.
