Coaches Selected for HP National Teams

USA Volleyball has recently announced the head coaches for the 2018 High Performance national teams. These experienced coaches, Kevin Hambly, Jonah Carson, Jim Stone, and Brad Keller, are all familiar with USAV’s High Performance Program and national teams. They will lead teams to the NORCECA Championship for their respective age groups, including the Women’s (under-20) and Men’s (under-21) Junior National Teams, as well as the Girls’ (under-18) and Boys’ (under-19) Youth National Teams.

The support staff members for these teams will be announced shortly. Let’s take a closer look at the coaches and their roles:

Women’s Junior National Team

Kevin Hambly, the head coach for the Stanford University women’s team, has accepted the role of head coach for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team (WJNT) for the 2018 season. Hambly brings a wealth of coaching experience to the team, having previously served as an assistant coach for the WJNT in 1999 and as a full-time assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2001 to 2004. He was also part of the coaching staff that helped Team USA win silver at the 2002 FIVB World Championship and gold at the 2001 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Hambly is excited about his new role and recognizes the importance of the High Performance Program in developing athletes who have the potential to represent their country at the Olympics.

Men’s Junior National Team

Jonah Carson will be the head coach of the 2018 Men’s Junior National Team (MJNT). Carson has been involved with USA Volleyball’s High Performance Program since 2007 and previously served as an assistant coach for the MJNT in 2016 and 2017. He is honored to continue his involvement in developing athletes and volleyball in the U.S. Carson has a background in coaching at both the college and club levels, and his experience will undoubtedly benefit the MJNT.

Girls Youth National Team

Jim Stone, who has been involved with the Girls Youth National Team (GYNT) program for over a decade, will serve as the head coach of the U.S. Girls Youth National Team in 2018. Stone has achieved significant success with the GYNT, leading them to silver medals at the 2013 and 2015 FIVB Girls U18 World Championship and gold medals at the 2008, 2010, and 2012 NORCECA Girls U18 Continental Championships. Stone recognizes the value of the High Performance Program in providing players with opportunities to improve and compete against top-level athletes.

Boys Youth National Team

Brad Keller, an assistant coach with the UCLA men’s volleyball team, has been appointed as the head coach of the 2018 Boys Youth National Team (BYNT). Keller has been involved with USAV’s High Performance Program since 2006 and has gradually worked his way up through the coaching ranks. He is grateful for the opportunity to represent his country as the head coach of the BYNT and is eager to work with the talented group of young men who have been trained by the USA Select coaching staff.

These coaches, with their vast experience and expertise, will play a crucial role in shaping the future of volleyball in the U.S. Under their guidance, the national teams are sure to achieve great success in the upcoming NORCECA Championship.
