U.S. Clinches Top Seed in Pan American Cup Playoffs

The U.S. Men’s National Team emerged victorious in a thrilling match against Canada in the NORCECA Pan American Cup, securing the top seed in the playoffs. The hard-fought game ended with a 3-2 victory for the U.S. team (21-25, 25-18, 31-29, 18-25, 15-13), concluding the pool play on a high note.

Head coach Andy Read expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “Both teams played really hard, and it was a high-level game of volleyball. We are delighted to finish first in the pool.”

With this win, the U.S. team (4-1; 20 points) has secured the top spot in the round-robin standings, guaranteeing them the No. 1 seed in the playoff round. Their opponent in the playoffs will either be Mexico or the Dominican Republic, who will complete the round-robin matches on Tuesday night.

The U.S. team is scheduled to play their playoff match at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, September 8. The match will be streamed live online for fans to enjoy.

Despite trailing Canada in several statistical categories, including attack points and service line points, the U.S. team demonstrated better ball control with fewer errors and a higher positive passing rate. Defensively, Cole Gillis stood out with 27 total receptions and an impressive 59% positive rate. Libero Kyle Dagostino made 23 receptions with a 57% positive rate, while Kyle McCauley contributed with 21 receptions at a 71% positive rate.
