Thirty-two men’s beach teams are gearing up for an exciting weekend at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. as they compete in the premier men’s college beach event in the country, the USA Volleyball Men’s Beach Collegiate Challenge.
Hosted by Stevenson University, this tournament holds special significance as the Mustangs made history last weekend by becoming the first NCAA varsity men’s beach volleyball team to compete. Now in its second year, the Men’s Beach Collegiate Challenge provides athletes with the opportunity to represent their schools as the sport continues to grow nationwide. The participating athletes will be evaluated by members of the NTDP Beach Scouting Network for potential invitations to future National Team Development Program (NTDP) events.

The tournament kicks off on Friday afternoon with round-robin pool play, where all teams will participate in two matches. Pool play continues on Saturday morning, and the top three teams from each pool (24 teams in total) will advance to a single-elimination knockout bracket for the rest of the weekend.
Among the competitors, seven Division I or Division II men’s (indoor) volleyball programs will be represented, including UCLA, St. Francis University, Lewis University, McKendree University, Lincoln Memorial University, Penn State University, and the University of Charleston.
Additionally, seven competitors are already part of the Beach National Team Development Program, showcasing their talent and potential. Players such as Jackson Arnold, Ryan Merk, Asa LaBreche, Tate Colebaugh, Zadyn Labreche, and Robert Nardoni have all participated in the NTDP Training Series. Michael Valenzi has even been named to the 2022 Beach Collegiate National Team.
