More Tourneys Mean More Opportunities for Girls Jr. Nationals

As the sport of volleyball continues to gain popularity among young athletes nationwide, USA Volleyball is taking steps to provide more opportunities for clubs and junior athletes to compete. The Girls Junior National Championship (GJNC) will now be split into multiple tournaments, allowing for increased participation and growth in the sport.

The inaugural GJNC for the 11-13 age divisions is scheduled to take place on June 14-17, 2023, at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis. USA Volleyball will soon announce the dates and location for the GJNC for the 14-17 age divisions.

According to USA Volleyball Events Director Kristy Cox, the growth of the GJNCs has created exciting opportunities for the volleyball community. In 2019, the event brought together 1,296 teams and over 35,000 spectators in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2021, the numbers increased to 1,303 teams and more than 40,000 spectators in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cox emphasizes the importance of offering opportunities for athletes across the country to compete for a national championship. With seven divisions for the 14-17 age groups and a 12-day event in Indianapolis this year, USA Volleyball aims to expand and promote participation in volleyball at all levels.
