USAV Opens Bids Farewell to Orlando with 10 Champions Crowned

The 2016 USA Volleyball Open National Championships, held in Orlando, Florida, recently came to a close with an exciting display of skill and determination. This year’s tournament saw the crowning of 10 champions, including Women’s B and Men’s B winners, RVC – Lemons and Team Hollywood, respectively.

RVC – Lemons emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle against Sets in the City, with a final score of 25-21, 21-25, 15-9. Gorana Bacic, an outstanding player from Lemons, expressed her admiration for the opposing team, highlighting their skill and sportsmanship.

The match between Lemons and Sets in the City was a thrilling display of talent, with both teams giving their all. It was a close competition, with neither team having a significant lead until late in each set. In the end, it was the strong attacking from the Lemons, led by Gorana Bacic and Laura Marcuson, that secured their victory.

The Men’s B final was no less intense, with Team Hollywood triumphing over Conquest Monkeys with a score of 27-25, 31-29. The Monkeys came close to forcing a third set but were ultimately denied by Hollywood’s impressive defensive play.

Throughout the tournament, a total of 578 teams, including 75 international teams, competed on 55 courts. The event marked the first time the U.S. Open National Championships took place in Florida, with the Florida Region co-hosting the competition. The matches were livestreamed on six courts, with live commentators adding to the viewer experience.

Highlights of the tournament included the Hoosier Team Pineapple’s victory over Great Lakes Lightning in a thrilling rematch of the 2015 Men’s PVL final. Additionally, the Florida Wave secured their first championship title in the Women’s PVL final by sweeping Iowa Ice. The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team also showcased their skills, winning three out of five exhibition matches against Russia.

Men’s 40+

  • Gold Medal: Hustle and Flow (Garden Empire)
  • Silver Medal: Fog Canada Men (Canada)
  • Bronze Medal: Milwaukee’s Best (Badger)

Women’s 45+

  • Gold Medal: Corinthians Brasil – 45 (Brazil)
  • Silver Medal: Rio de Janeiro Brasil (Brazil)
  • Bronze Medal: Shots (Southern California)

Men’s 50+

  • Gold Medal: Santos/Rumo (Brazil)
  • Silver Medal: Blaine Labs (Heart of America)
  • Bronze Medal: Fog Canada 50 (Canada)

Women’s 55+

  • Gold Medal: Brasil Mix – 55 (Brazil)
  • Silver Medal: Fog Canada Masters 55’s (Canada)
  • Bronze Medal: Care of All Ages (Badger)

Men’s 60+

  • Gold Medal: Federal Resources Blaine Labs (Heart of America)
  • Silver Medal: Kings Mountain Fog (Northern California)
  • Bronze Medal: Fog Canada 60s (Canada)

Women’s 65+

  • Gold Medal: VIVIVOLEI (Brazil)
  • Silver Medal: Rhythm (Garden Empire)
  • Bronze Medal: Legacy 65 (Southern California)

Men’s 70+

  • Gold Medal: Quicksilver Legends (Southern California)
  • Silver Medal: Sun of a Beach (Southern California)
  • Bronze Medal: Outback Steakhouse 70 (Puget Sound)

Men’s 76+

  • Gold Medal: MAC MAGIC76 (Chesapeake)
  • Silver Medal: Rustys 76 (Columbia Empire)
  • Bronze Medal: Highlanders76B (Rocky Mountain)
