Beach Update: 2016 Coming to a Close

The beach volleyball season of 2016 is nearing its end, with the highly anticipated AVP Tour Championship and the FIVB World Tour Finals just around the corner.

AVP Championships and FIVB World Tour Finals

Teams from all over are making their way to the domestic finale at the AVP Championships, which will take place in Chicago starting on September 1st. Following this event, three American teams will go on to compete in the FIVB World Tour Finals in mid-September in Toronto.

As the year draws to a close, athletes have already begun shuffling their pairings. The AVP Championships, starting on September 1st, will showcase some notable match-ups. But the season doesn’t end there, with three teams also set to compete in the FIVB World Tour Finals, as well as two additional NORCECA Continental Tour events.

The 2016 FIVB World Tour concludes in Toronto, Canada at the Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals from September 13th to 18th. The three American teams that qualified for the finals did so by ranking in the top eight in final points for the World Tour. These teams are Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena, John Hyden/Tri Bourne, and April Ross/Kerri Walsh Jennings. The event winners will take home the largest purse of the year, with $100,000 awarded to the gold medal team.
