USAV Selects Phoenix to Host HP Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2020) – USA Volleyball has chosen Phoenix as the host city for the 2021 High Performance Championship (HPC). This prestigious event, taking place from July 21-25, will feature the rising stars of the USA Volleyball National Team pipeline.

Teams from around the country will converge at the Phoenix Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown, to compete in this thrilling championship. The decision to select Phoenix as the host city was made with great excitement and anticipation.

The USA Volleyball High Performance Championship is a platform that highlights the talent of boys and girls from the USAV National Team pipeline, regional high performance teams, and international teams. Over the years, teams from Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and the United States have participated in the championship. In 2019, the event attracted approximately 145 teams.

Leading up to the HPC competition, athletes from the USA Volleyball National Team pipeline will undergo a rigorous five-day training camp from July 16-20, also taking place at the Phoenix Convention Center. This camp will determine the top teams in each age group.

Dr. Peter Vint, USAV Chief of Sports, emphasized the significance of the High Performance Championship, stating, “This event brings together the best age-group athletes from across the country to compete with and against each other. These ‘Best v Best’ opportunities provide unique challenges and accelerate the development of these promising young players, many of whom may represent our country as members of our National Teams in the future.”

Several current U.S. National Team players, including Tori Dixon, Lauren Carlini, Megan Courtney, Morgan Hentz, Kathryn Plummer, Aaron Russell, and T.J. DeFalco, have previously competed in the HP Championship.

The Phoenix Convention Center has a proven track record of hosting successful volleyball events, having previously accommodated the USAV Boys Junior National Championship and the USAV Open National Championship.
