Girls Youth Team Advances to Quarters at U18 Worlds

The U.S. Girls Youth National Team has advanced to the quarterfinals at the FIVB Girls U18 World Championship in Santa Fe, Argentina, with an impressive victory over Slovenia. This win sets the stage for an exciting matchup against Italy, who have only dropped two sets in five matches. The Americans will have a day off before facing Italy on Friday at 3p ET.

Team USA Starters

The U.S. Girls Youth National Team put on a stellar performance, with key contributions from various players. The team’s libero, Brooke Nuneviller, and setter, Nicklin Hames, displayed great skill and coordination. The middles, Holly Campbell and Kendall Kipp, made valuable contributions, while Mica Allison and Taylor Landfair played exceptionally as outside hitters.

Logan Eggleston led the team in points with 19, closely followed by Mica Allison with 12 and Taylor Landfair with 9. Eggleston also proved her prowess in kills with 12, alongside Allison with 11 and Landfair with 6. Holly Campbell displayed strong blocking skills with 4 blocks, and Eggleston stood out with 4 aces.

In the match against Slovenia, the U.S. team displayed an exceptional performance. They started strong, erasing an early lead by Slovenia and securing the first set with a 25-21 victory. Throughout the second set, the young Americans dominated, leading by a significant margin and winning the set 25-18. The third set was more closely contested, but the U.S. team, ranked No. 1 in the world, managed to close out the match with a 25-22 victory.

Head coach Jim Stone expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, pointing out their impressive offensive contributions and serving performance. The players themselves shared their excitement and joy in winning the match in three sets.

Now, the U.S. faces Italy, a team they recently scrimmaged before the tournament. It will be a challenging match, but the U.S. team is confident in their growth and improvement since their last encounter. They are eager to showcase their progress and put up a strong fight against Italy.

More about the U.S. Girls Youth National Team

The U.S. Girls Youth National Team has a history of success, with notable achievements in previous World Championships. In 2013, they became the first U.S. volleyball team, male or female, to win a world championship medal at the youth or junior level, securing a silver medal. In 2015, they earned another silver in the World Championship final against Italy.

The team consists of talented players from various regions across the United States. They competed in Pool B alongside strong teams like Russia, Brazil, Belarus, and Mexico.
