Holloway, Molten Heading to D.C. to Lobby Congress for PHIT Act

Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 21, 2017) – Molten USA, a long-time partner of USA Volleyball, is set to join three-time U.S. Paralympic Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team player Katie Holloway and the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) in Washington, D.C. for National Health Through Fitness Day (NHTF Day) on March 22. Their purpose is to meet with members of the United States Congress to advocate for the importance of the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act and address the sedentary crisis in America.

Holloway, a gold medalist at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, expressed her honor at being chosen by Molten USA to represent USA Volleyball at this event. National Health Through Fitness Day highlights the year-round efforts of the SFIA and its sponsors to pass major legislation aimed at promoting an active lifestyle. About 150 leaders from the sports, fitness, and physical education industries will be lobbying Congress to tackle sedentary lifestyles and the obesity epidemic plaguing the nation.

One such legislation that the SFIA is promoting is the PHIT Act. Introduced to Congress in October 2015, the PHIT Act provides incentives for Americans to engage in physical fitness activities, with the goal of reducing healthcare costs related to preventable chronic diseases. Molten USA, an Alliance Sponsor of PHIT America since 2013, is thrilled to be part of this initiative. According to Melissa Dawson, President of Molten USA, the PHIT bill aligns perfectly with their philosophy and belief that all types of athletics can serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for individuals. Leading an active lifestyle is essential for both physical and mental health, and sports offer a fun and effective way to achieve this.
