MNT Update: Overseas Season Keeps Rolling Along

The overseas season for the U.S. Men’s National Team athletes is in full swing, with players competing for clubs around the world. Let’s take a closer look at their recent performances.

Poland

In Poland, middle blocker David Smith made a strong comeback after the break, leading Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle to a 3-0 victory over PSG Stal Nysa on Jan. 20. Smith contributed two points with two kills, while Erik Shoji provided 12 digs and 15 receptions for Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

On Jan. 25, Kędzierzyn-Koźle faced Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, with setter Josh Tuaniga on the opposing team. It was a thrilling match that ended in a 3-2 victory for Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Smith played a crucial role, scoring 12 points with six kills, two blocks, and four aces. Shoji also had an impressive performance with eight digs and 22 receptions. Tuaniga contributed to Indykpol’s .444 hitting efficiency despite the loss.

Indykpol suffered another defeat on Jan. 20, this time against Jastrzębski Węgiel, with Tuaniga scoring two points. However, he showed his skills with three digs and 33 assists.

In their most recent match on Jan. 29, Indykpol faced PSG Stal Nysa and experienced a 3-2 loss. Tuaniga provided an ace and seven digs, contributing to the team’s .395 hitting efficiency.

Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, with outside hitter TJ DeFalco, emerged victorious in a 3-1 win over Slepsk Malow Suwalki on Jan. 21. DeFalco scored 17 points with 13 kills, three blocks, and one ace.

However, Rzeszów faced a setback on Jan. 25, losing to Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in a 3-1 match. DeFalco still put up a strong performance, scoring 17 points with 14 kills, one block, and two aces.

In their latest match on Jan. 28, Jastrzębski Węgiel defeated Rzeszów 3-1. DeFalco had 15 points with 12 kills, two blocks, and an ace.

Project Warszawa, with middle blocker Taylor Averill, dominated GKS Katowice on Jan. 19, winning 3-0. Averill did not play in the following matches, but Warszawa continued its winning streak with victories against Enea Czarni Radom and Barkom Kaźany Lwów.

KGHM Cuprum Lubin, with outside hitter Jake Hanes, faced a defeat against PGE GiEK Skra Belchatow on Jan. 18. However, Hanes put up an impressive performance, scoring 17 points with 14 kills, two blocks, and an ace. In the subsequent match against Bogdanka LUK Lublin on Jan. 23, Hanes contributed 16 points, helping KGHM get back in the win column. In their latest match on Jan. 30 against Trefl Gdańsk, Hanes led all scorers with 29 points.

TÜRKIYE

Micah Ma’a and Halkbank have maintained their undefeated record with two wins in the past 10 days. On Jan. 21, Halkbank won a closely contested match against Arkas Spor, with Ma’a scoring six points. They continued their winning streak on Jan. 27 with a victory against Türşad.

Matt Anderson and Ziraat Bankkart have also been performing well, winning two matches in the past 10 days. Anderson scored 17 points in their victory over Rams Global Cizre Belediyesi Spor Kulübü on Jan. 20 and contributed 17 points again in their win against Kuşgöz İzmir Vinç Akkuş Bld. on Jan. 28.

ITALY

Prisma Taranto Volley, with Jeff Jendryk and Kyle Russell, faced a defeat against Vero Volley Monza on Jan. 21. Russell recorded 17 points with 16 kills and one ace, while Jendryk added seven points. In their match against Cisterna Volley, Gabi Garcia scored 10 kills, but Pallavolo Padova suffered a loss.

JAPAN

Thomas Jaeschke and the Panasonic Panthers have been on fire, winning four consecutive matches. Jaeschke played a crucial role in their victories, scoring 18 points against the Toray Rose on Jan. 20 and 14 points in their win against Toray on Jan. 21. The Panthers also emerged victorious in their matches against the JTEKT Stings.

Aaron Russell and JT Thunders Hiroshima have also been performing exceptionally well, winning their last four matches. Russell recorded impressive scores in each match, including 29 points against the JTEKT Stings on Dec. 20 and 22 points in their victory against the same team on Dec. 21.

RUSSIA

Micah Christenson and Zenit Kazan have maintained their winning streak, with victories against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk and Zenit St. Petersburg.

FRANCE

Chaumont Volley-Ball 52, with Patrick Gasman and Michael Marshman, faced mixed results in their last two matches. They fell to Plessis-Robinson but bounced back with a sweeping victory against Nantes Rezé.

St-Nazaire, with Kyle Ensing, Jordan Ewert, and Quinn Isaacson, faced defeats in their last two matches against Nantes Rezé and Paris.

GERMANY

Cody Kessel and the Berlin Recycling Volleys had one victory and one loss in their past three matches.

AUSTRIA

Hypo Tirol, with libero Tim McIntosh, emerged victorious in their last two matches against Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel and TJ Sokol/Post SV Wien.

FINLAND

Hurrikaani Loimaa, with libero Troy Gooch, continued their winning streak with victories against VaLePa and Savo Volley.

NETHERLANDS

In the Netherlands, Nova Tech Lycurgus HS 1, with Kyle McCauley, won two out of their last three matches.
