Opportunities Abound for College Beach Athletes

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 5, 2024) – If you’re a college athlete interested in beach volleyball, you’ll be excited to know that USA Volleyball’s Beach National Team Development Program (NTDP) has a packed lineup of events for collegiate athletes in 2024.

USA Volleyball World University Championships Beach National Team Trials

The 2024 USA Volleyball World University Championships (WUC) Beach National Team Trials will be held from May 16-19 in Manhattan Beach, Calif. This event will run alongside an NTDP Spring Training Series event. The World University Championships will take place from September 2-8 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The WUC Trials will follow an international format of round-robin pool play, featuring 32 teams per gender. Afterward, a 24-team single-elimination bracket will determine the winners. In the event of a large number of teams, a qualification tournament on May 16 will determine the final eight teams per gender for the main draw.

An interesting aspect of the trials is that competing pairs do not have to represent the same university. This opens up opportunities for athletes to team up with players from different schools.

The winning team of each gender will have the honor of representing the United States at the World University Championships. However, this is subject to meeting all the requirements of USA Volleyball, NORCECA, FIVB, FISU, and IOC. Second- and third-place finishers will also receive discounts for the 2024 Beach Collegiate Challenge events.

The 2024 Women’s Beach Collegiate Challenge will take place in Virginia Beach, Va. from September 27-29. This event will coincide with the 50th Annual Virginia Beach Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend and an NTDP Fall Training Series event.

“We are so excited to host this event during our 50th Annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend,” said Bo Wilkinson, Vice President of Operations, Virginia Beach Neptune Festival. “It is an honor to have these athletes train and compete on our sand, and we know our guests will be thrilled to watch the action.”

Key Highlights of the Collegiate Challenge Events:

  • Every athlete will have the opportunity to be scouted through the Beach National Team Development Program (NTDP) Scouting Network.
  • Points earned from these events will count towards future USA Volleyball events, including the 2025 USA Volleyball U21 Beach National Team Trials.

These collegiate events will be excellent opportunities for athletes to showcase their skills and potentially be considered for selection to a national team.
