Pan Am Cup Team Brings Experience to Mexico

USA Volleyball is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming Pan American Cup in Colima, Mexico. A team of 14 players and five staff members will represent the United States in this prestigious event, showcasing their skills and international experience.

Young Players with International Experience

The team consists of talented young players who have gained valuable experience in the Pan American Cup, as well as representing USAV youth and junior teams and international club teams. Their previous participation in the 2018 Pan American Cup, where they finished seventh, has given them the necessary exposure to compete at the highest level.

Returning Players and Rising Stars

Eight players from the current team were also part of the 2018 Pan American Cup team. Setter Jonah Seif, opposites Kyle Russell, David Wieczorek, and James Shaw (formerly a setter), middle blockers Price Jarman and Brendan Schmidt, and liberos Kyle Dagostino and Kupono Fey (formerly an outside hitter) bring their experience and skills to the table. Jarman, Seif, and Wieczorek were also part of the 2017 Pan Am Cup team that finished fifth.

A Diverse Skill Set

The team is filled with versatile players who have excelled both domestically and internationally. Setter Josh Tuaniga, the team captain, has previously played in the Pan American Cup and also represented the U.S. Men in the Volleyball Nations League. Outside hitter Cody Kessel has played overseas for club teams in Germany, while setter Joe Worsley and middle blocker George Huhmann have represented U.S. youth and junior national teams.

A Strong Coaching Staff

Leading the team is head coach Milan Zarkovic, an assistant coach for Hawaii’s men’s volleyball team. Zarkovic, who has played on the Serbian national team and coached there before joining the staff at Hawaii, is no stranger to high-level competition. Assisting him are David Hunt, Pepperdine’s men’s head coach, and Shiari Morteza, formerly with the Iranian national team.

Excitement and Commitment

“It has been an honor, a pleasure, and a challenge to practice with and prepare the Pan Am Cup team,” said Zarkovic. “We worked with full commitment and plan to do our best. As members of USAV, we are obligated to strive for the podium.”
