Q: How’s retirement going?

Jake Gibb: “It’s good, I’m really enjoying it. Just the release from playing and being able to focus on other things is really cool.”

Q: Does it feel like retirement yet?

Jake Gibb: “I thought I was going to take some time off, but I started my beach club right away. It’s been a whirlwind, but it’s been a cool transition for me.”

Q: What’s your new club about?

Jake Gibb: “It’s called Spiker Beach Volleyball Club in Huntington Beach, Calif. I’ll be coaching 12-17-year-old girls and helping them get scholarships to college. It’s an exciting time.”

Q: What are you most excited about?

Jake Gibb: “I love the game, and being able to share that passion with kids and help them progress is something I’m really looking forward to. It’s no longer about me, it’s about them.”

Reflecting on a Fulfilling Career

Q: What were your goals when you started playing professionally?

Jake Gibb: “When I first started playing, my goals were to qualify for the AVP. I never had any aspirations for anything above that.”

Q: Did you accomplish the goals you had when you first started playing?

Jake Gibb: “Yeah, and more. Looking back, I accomplished way more than I ever expected of myself. It exceeded all my expectations.”

Q: Any particular Olympic Games stand out?

Jake Gibb: “The London Games were my favorite. We were playing our best at that time. We took a fifth, which was decent, but that was the best year of my career. We were the number one team in the world.”

Q: Any special off-court memories from your career?

Jake Gibb: “I remember winning in Rome in 2012. We qualified for the Olympics, and it was a great night where we bonded as a team.”

Q: How was it playing against your BNT teammates?

Jake Gibb: “For me, it’s about making each other better. We push each other to get better and take on the world together.”

Q: What did volleyball teach you?

Jake Gibb: “Volleyball taught me the importance of having the right team around you. Putting the best people around you leads to success.”

Jake Gibb: “USA Volleyball has played a significant role in my career. They have changed and improved, and now they’re an essential part of my beach volleyball team.”
