Subs Keep U.S. Men’s Streak Alive at Worlds

The U.S. Men’s National Team continues to dominate at the FIVB World Championship, thanks to the impressive performance of their bench players. In a sweeping victory against Iran, the United States displayed their depth and versatility. This win not only solidifies their undefeated record, but it also secures their spot in the final six teams of the championship.

A Team Effort

The U.S. Men’s team, with their 8-0 record, is the only undefeated team in the tournament. Joining them in the next round are Brazil, Italy, Poland, Russia, and Serbia. Iran, despite their valiant efforts, unfortunately did not advance.

To give the starters, Taylor Sander and Aaron Russell, a well-deserved break, middle blocker Dan McDonnell stepped up and played on the outside. McDonnell’s performance was exceptional, especially considering it was his first time playing in that position since high school.

Impressive Stats

McDonnell showcased his skills from the service line, finishing with three aces, three kills, and one block. Opposite hitter Ben Patch led the scoring with 17 points, including 13 kills and four blocks.

While Iran led in kills, the U.S. Men’s team showcased their strength in blocking, leading the category with 12 blocks. The aces and scoring errors were evenly matched between the two teams.
