Twenty Athletes Training for Men’s U21 Team

Twenty talented young athletes have been selected to participate in the 2023 Men’s U21 NORCECA Pan American Cup. This prestigious roster comprises current and future college volleyball players who will represent the United States at the competition in Havana, Cuba.

Competition and Training Details

The twelve players chosen from this roster will compete at the NORCECA Pan Am Cup, which will take place from June 5th to June 10th in Havana. Before the competition, the team will undergo intensive training from May 28th to June 2nd in Anaheim, California.

A Winning Lineup

This promising team includes seven players who were part of the 2022 Men’s U21 Pan American Cup winning team, where they secured gold and qualified for the 2023 World Championship. These players are Nyherowo Omene (middle blocker), Christopher Connelly (libero), Dane Hillis (outside hitter), Trent Moser (outside hitter), Kyle Teune (outside hitter), Shane Wetzel (opposite), and Tyler Morgan (setter).

The Rising Stars

The roster also features an impressive lineup of talented athletes. Ben Putman, Patrick Rogers, Alex Rottman, and Theo Snoey are the exceptional outside hitters chosen for the team. The middle blockers selected are Nicodemus Meyer, Owen Rose, and Micah Wong Diallo. The setters are Island Doty and Gabe Dyer, while Ryan Merk and Jacob Reilly will serve as liberos.

Coaching Staff

Leading the team is the experienced Andy Read, who guided the 2022 Men’s U21 team to Pan Am Cup gold. Assisting him are Rory Prager and Taylor Hammond. Together, they will provide the guidance and expertise necessary for the team’s success.

A New Level of Talent

Coach Read acknowledged the remarkable talent within the team, highlighting their achievements during their collegiate seasons. He emphasized that many of these athletes have the potential to represent the United States in upcoming Olympic Games. This summer’s competitions will serve as a valuable opportunity for both new and returning players to gain international experience and showcase their skills.

Upcoming World Championship

The roster for the 2023 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship in Manama, Bahrain, will be announced later this summer. The team’s performance in the NORCECA Pan Am Cup will undoubtedly play a significant role in determining the final lineup.
