USA Volleyball to Host Collegiate Beach Championships

USA Volleyball is thrilled to announce that it will be hosting the Collegiate Beach Championships in May 2017 as part of the Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Comcast.

A New Championship in the Sand

Taking place from May 11-13 in Hermosa Beach, California, the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships will bring together 24 women’s pairs and eight men’s pairs to compete for the title. The winning pairs will earn a spot on a USA Volleyball collegiate beach national team.

“USA Volleyball is delighted to be a part of Team USA’s 2017 Summer Champions Series,” said Jamie Davis, USA Volleyball’s Chief Executive Officer. “This collegiate tournament aligns with our strategic direction of increasing participation at all levels, and we believe the partnership with NBC Sports Network will invite new boys and girls to join us on the beach.”

Exciting Broadcast Coverage

NBCSN will be airing the women’s final live on May 13, followed by the taped delayed men’s final. The tournament will kick off with pool play on Thursday and wrap up with the finals on Saturday. The broadcast will feature all the thrilling action from the single-elimination bracket play.

Qualification and Selection Process

The eight schools that qualify for the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships will earn an automatic berth for their top team. The remaining women’s pairs and all eight men’s pairs will be chosen by a selection committee based on merit from the 2017 season and USAV Beach Ranking. USA Volleyball may also award up to two women’s wild card pairs. The selection committee consists of representatives from NCAA, USA Volleyball, AVCA, and athlete representatives.
