Developing the Best Talent

The U.S. Girls Youth National Team, comprised of talented athletes from the USAV High Performance pipeline, has been diligently preparing for this prestigious tournament at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs over the past two weeks.

Pool B Challenges

As the top-ranked team in the world, the U.S. will compete in Pool B against tough opponents such as Russia, the 2017 European U18 champions; Brazil, the 2017 South American champions; as well as Belarus and Mexico.

Exciting Matches Ahead

Here is the schedule for the pool matches:

  • Aug. 19: USA vs. Russia
  • Aug. 20: USA vs. Belarus
  • Aug. 21: USA vs. Brazil
  • Aug. 22: USA vs. Mexico

The team is fully aware of the challenges ahead but remains optimistic. Libero Brooke Nuneviller is determined to work hard and achieve their goal of winning a gold medal: “We have a lot to get to if we want to end up with our goal of getting a gold medal. We’ve never done that as a youth team. I think that we need to work really, really hard if we want to get that goal, but I think we can do it if we push ourselves hard enough.”

Outside hitter Madi Kubik is equally thrilled at the opportunity to represent her country in South America: “Not that many 16-year-olds can say they’ve been to South America to go compete for their country. That’s an exciting experience for anyone to have. I think the playing level in our gym is very eye-opening coming from our club and our high school teams. My goals are to go compete, represent our country well, and win that gold medal.”

Preparations in Brazil

Prior to the World Championship, the team will travel to Brazil for additional practice and scrimmages against the U18 national teams from Italy, Japan, and Brazil. This experience will provide valuable exposure to top-level international competition and enhance their readiness for the tournament.
