USAV Announces 2017 Boys Youth National Training Team

USA Volleyball is excited to reveal the members of the 2017 Boys Youth National Training Team. This talented group of athletes will be preparing for the upcoming 2017 FIVB Boys U19 World Championship in Bahrain, a highly anticipated event in the volleyball community.

The Training Team will have the opportunity to practice at both the High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale and a camp in Lake Placid. The final 12 players will then be selected to represent the United States at the World Championship in Bahrain, which will take place from August 18th to 27th.

Last year, the U.S. team earned a silver medal at the NORCECA Boys Youth Continental Championship and finished seventh at the U19 World Championship. With this solid foundation and the addition of new talent, hopes are high for a successful run in Bahrain.

Head Coach Sam Shweisky is optimistic about the team’s chances, stating, “We are looking forward to expanding on the success we had in Cuba. There is a core nucleus of players who helped us qualify last year in NORCECA, and we believe they will be key contributors in the World Championship.”

Shweisky, who also serves as the head coach of the men’s volleyball team at Princeton University, brings a wealth of experience to the team. He previously served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team, which won silver at the 2015 Junior Pan-Am Championships.

It sets a new ceiling for what they can attain and is a crucial step in their development.”
