USAV Processes 430 International Transfers

USA Volleyball is facilitating the transfer of 430 international transfer certificates (313 females, 117 males) for United States citizens to play in professional volleyball leagues abroad for the 2019-2020 season as of December 12th. While this number is slightly lower than last year’s record of 440 transfers, additional transfers, including members of the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams, are expected to be processed throughout the winter months.

For the women’s side, players have transferred to 36 different countries, with England attracting the most with 45 players, followed by France with 44 players. Germany, Italy, and Switzerland also saw significant interest from U.S. women’s players. Notably, the Italian league boasts 11 U.S. Women’s National Team players, six of whom helped Team USA secure silver at the 2019 FIVB World Cup.

On the men’s side, German clubs attracted the most U.S. athletes, with 23 transfers, followed by England with 21 transfers. France also saw 11 transfers to their professional volleyball leagues. Notably, Italy hosts six U.S. Men’s National Team players who were part of the Team USA roster at the 2019 FIVB World Cup.

In total, U.S. athletes are participating in the 2019-2020 club seasons in 39 different countries.

The International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is a requirement by the FIVB for athletes to transfer from one National Federation to another to play in professional leagues.
