USA Volleyball Sets New Records in International Transfers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 23, 2020) – USA Volleyball has achieved a remarkable milestone by processing a national federation-record 456 international transfer certificates for the 2019-20 season. This number includes 336 females and 120 males, allowing United States citizens to compete in foreign professional volleyball leagues. The previous record of 440 international transfers, also processed by USA Volleyball, was set in the 2018-19 season. It is worth noting that additional transfers, including members of the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams, are yet to be finalized and will be processed in the coming days.

Women’s International Transfers

On the women’s side, athletes have transferred to play in 36 different countries. France, Germany, England, Italy, and Switzerland are among the top destinations. France, in particular, has attracted 47 players, followed closely by Germany with 46 players. The Italian league has had 12 U.S. Women’s National Team players, including six who contributed to Team USA’s silver medal win at the 2019 FIVB World Cup.

Men’s International Transfers

In terms of men’s international transfers, Germany is a popular choice, with 23 athletes making the move. England, France, and Italy are also popular destinations. The U.S. Men’s National Team has six players currently competing in Italy, all of whom were part of the Team USA roster at the 2019 FIVB World Cup.

The influence of U.S. athletes extends beyond Europe, with 40 different countries hosting U.S. players in their club seasons for 2019-20.

International Transfer Certificates (ITC)

The International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is a mandatory requirement of the FIVB for athletes transferring from one National Federation to another to play in professional leagues.
