USAV Sets Beach ParaVolley Training Camps

USA Volleyball is excited to announce the upcoming beach ParaVolley training camps. These camps offer athletes the chance to participate in international competition, as well as learn the sport in an active setting.

Beach ParaVolley, a standing beach volleyball game played with three-member teams, promotes inclusivity through the Paralympic classification system. Michelle Goodall, the beach ParaVolley program administrator, emphasizes the goal of building the sport’s athlete pipeline and increasing exposure in 2020.

The 2020 season features several international competitions, including the Pingtan Beach World Series Open in China. This event has been particularly successful for the USA, with a gold medal in the men’s division and a silver medal in the women’s division in 2019. Other potential locations for international competitions include The Netherlands, India, Lanzarote (Spain), and the United States.

While all athletes are encouraged to attend the training camps, those wishing to represent the USA in international tournaments must participate in one of the three training camps or designated International Event Qualifiers (IEQ) prior to selection. The training camps are scheduled for March 27-29 in Tavares, Florida, June 26-28, and July 29-31 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

USA Volleyball will also hold beach ParaVolley demonstration events this summer. The first demonstration will take place on May 1-3 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, in conjunction with the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship. The second demonstration, along with a standalone tournament, will be held on May 8-10 in Hermosa Beach, California, in conjunction with the Collegiate Beach Championships.

Based on the international tournaments taking place in the fall, a pre-international training block is likely to be held in September in Edmond, Oklahoma. Additional training camps, domestic tournaments, and demonstrations may be added at a later date.

All athletes, regardless of age, gender, or classifiable disability, are invited to participate in the USA Volleyball beach ParaVolley training camps. Athletes for domestic demonstrations will be selected by invitation, but all classifiable athletes expressing interest and availability will be considered.
