Women’s Update: Hall of Fame Inductions & Club World Championship

The international club season is in full swing, with members of the U.S. Women’s National Team showcasing their skills overseas. One of the most prestigious events in women’s volleyball, the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, is currently taking place in Manila, Philippines.

While the U.S. Women’s National Team is on hiatus, several American players are competing in the Club World Championship. Among them are Jordan Larson and Rachael Adams, representing defending champion Eczacibasi. Larson, who was named the most valuable player in last year’s event, and Adams are eager to make their mark in this year’s competition.

The Swiss team Volero Zurich boasts the talent of U.S. middle blocker Foluke Akinradewo, while Turkey’s VakifBank features U.S. outside hitter Kim Hill. Carli Lloyd, a setter on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, and middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer are playing for the Pomi Casalmaggiore roster.

Other Americans competing in the tournament include Lindsay Stalzer, Stephanie Niemer, Kristy Lynn Schmieder of the host team PSL-F2 Logistics Manila, and Ashley Frazier with Bangkok Glass.

The tournament is divided into two pools of four teams each. Pool A consists of PSL-F2 Logistics Manila, Pomi Casalmaggiore, Eczacibasi, and Rexona-SESC from Brazil. Pool B features VakifBank, Hisamitsu Springs from Japan, Volero Zurich, and Bangkok Glass.

Scott-Arruda Being Inducted into Hall of Fame

Danielle Scott-Arruda, the only U.S. Women’s National Team member to compete in five Olympic Games, will be honored with induction into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame.
