Women’s Update: Larson, Adams Shine in Overseas Leagues

Several U.S. Women’s National Team players are making their mark in overseas pro leagues as the seasons progress. Let’s take a closer look at some impressive performances and upcoming matches.

adidas Signs Eight More U.S. Women’s Players

Adidas has announced multi-year partnerships with 16 USA Volleyball athletes, including eight from the U.S. Women’s National Team. These players are striving for spots on either the 2020 Olympic or Paralympic Games rosters. Joining U.S. Women’s National Team setter Lauren Carlini, who signed with adidas Volleyball earlier this year, are outside hitters Jordan Larson, Kim Hill, and Sarah Wilhite, setter Carli Lloyd, middles Tori Dixon, Hannah Tapp, and Paige Tapp, and opposite Kelly Murphy. This new roster of adidas Volleyball athletes will collaborate on future volleyball sneakers, equipment, and accessories, and will be featured in upcoming brand marketing campaigns.

USAV Transfers Update

As of November 30, USA Volleyball has processed 368 international transfer certificates, allowing United States citizens to compete in foreign professional volleyball leagues for the 2017-18 season. Athletes have transferred to play in 35 different countries, with England having the highest number of United States citizens playing in its league. Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, and Sweden also have a significant number of American players in their leagues.

Larson and Adams Shine in Turkish League

Outside hitter Jordan Larson and middle Rachael Adams are making waves in the Turkish League this season playing for Eczacibasi. In their recent match against Bursa B.Sehir Bld on Dec. 2, Eczacibasi came out on top with a 3-2 victory. Adams contributed 21 points with 14 kills, four blocks, and three aces, while Larson added 17 points with 16 kills and a block. Eczacibasi is currently in first place and has a busy schedule ahead, with their next match against Halkbank on Dec. 5. They will also start the CEV Cup competition against VC Oudegem on Dec. 13.

Robinson Takes the Court in Turkish League

Outside hitter Kelsey Robinson is making her mark in the Turkish professional league playing for VakifBank. In their recent match against Seramiksan on Dec. 2, VakifBank secured a straight-set victory with Robinson contributing six points. With VakifBank currently in second place, they will face Bursa B. Sehir on Dec. 5 to close out the first half of the regular season. In the European Champions League, VakifBank is part of Pool D and will face Grot Budowlani Lodz, Dinamo Moscow, and Turkish rival Galatasaray in double round-robin action starting on Dec. 14.

Akinradewo’s Success in Japan

Two-time U.S. Olympic medalist Foluke Akinradewo is playing for Japan V.League’s Hisamitsu Springs this winter. Hisamitsu Springs remains undefeated, winning their recent matches against JT Marvelous and Toyota. Akinradewo has been a key contributor to the team’s success, scoring a combined total of 31 points in the two matches. Hisamitsu Springs will face Toray on Dec. 9, followed by a match against Toyota on Dec. 10.

Hill Shines in Italian League

Outside hitter Kim Hill is making waves in the Italian Serie A1 playing for Imoco Volley Conegliano. In their recent match against Savino Del Bene Scandicci on Dec. 3, Conegliano secured a hard-fought victory. Hill led the team with 21 points, including 20 kills and a block. With Conegliano back in first place, they have an important match against second-place Igor Gorgonzola Novara on Dec. 9. In the European Champions League, Conegliano will face Agel Prostejov, Fenerbahce, and Igor Gorgonzola in a double round-robin format starting on Dec. 13.

Dixon and Hancock’s Upset Victory

Middle Tori Dixon and setter Micha Hancock are making their presence known in the Italian Serie A1 playing for Saugella Team Monza. In their recent match against undefeated Igor Gorgonzola Novara on Dec. 3, Monza pulled off a stunning upset in a tight five-set contest. Dixon contributed 14 points, including 10 kills and three blocks, while Hancock set the team to a 42% kill rate and .240 hitting efficiency. Monza will aim for their third consecutive victory when they take on Liu Jo Nordmeccanica Modena on Dec. 10.

Gibbemeyer’s Performance in Italian League

Middle Lauren Gibbemeyer is playing for Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the Italian Serie A1 this season. In their recent match against Saugella Team Monza on Dec. 3, Novara suffered their first defeat of the season in a five-set battle. Gibbemeyer had a strong performance, contributing 17 points with nine kills and eight blocks. Novara will look to bounce back in their upcoming match against Imoco Volley Conegliano on Dec. 9. In the European Champions League, Novara will face Agel Prostejov, Fenerbahce, and Imoco Volley Conegliano in a double round-robin format starting on Dec. 13.

U.S. Women’s Players in Italy’s Serie A1

Michelle Bartsch-Hackley and Sarah Wilhite are playing for Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio in the Italian Serie A1. Busto Arsizio secured two victories over Il Bisonte Firenze and Mycicero Volley Pesaro. Bartsch-Hackley scored a total of 20 points in the two matches, while Wilhite did not play in the most recent match. Busto Arsizio will face Pomi Casalmaggiore in their next league match on Dec. 8.

Lauren Carlini is playing for Savino Del Bene Scandicci in the Italian Serie A1. Scandicci suffered a defeat against Imoco Volley Conegliano, with Carlini setting the team to a 40% kill rate. Scandicci will look to bounce back in their upcoming match against Foppapedretti Bergamo.

Hannah Tapp is playing for Il Bisonte Firenze in the Italian Serie A1. Firenze had mixed results in their recent matches, but Tapp had impressive performances, scoring a combined total of 33 points. Firenze will face Mycicero Volley Pesaro in their next league match on Dec. 10.

Annie Drews and Sonja Newcombe are playing for Sab Volley Legnano in the Italian Serie A1. Legnano secured a victory against Pomi Casalmaggiore, with Newcombe contributing 16 points. Legnano will face Lardini Filottrano in their next league match on Dec. 10.

Carly Wopat is playing for BAIC Motors in Beijing as part of the Chinese professional league. BAIC had mixed results in their recent matches, but Wopat contributed a total of 26 points. BAIC will face Zheijiang in their next league match on Dec. 9.

Molly McCage is playing for Allianz MTV Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga. Stuttgart secured a victory against Wiesbaden, with McCage scoring a team-high 19 points. Stuttgart will face VCO Berlin in their next league match on Dec. 9.

Madi Bugg is playing for Dresdner SC in the German Bundesliga. Dresdner will face Schwerin in their next league match on Dec. 6.

Amber Rolfzen is playing for Beziers in the French League. Beziers secured a victory against Quimper, with Rolfzen contributing 12 points. Beziers will face Chamalieres in their next league match on Dec. 5.

Lexi Dannemiller is playing for ASPTT Mulhouse in the French League. Mulhouse suffered a defeat against RC Cannes, but Dannemiller recorded two blocks. Mulhouse will face SF Paris St Cloud in their next league match on Dec. 5.

Amanda Benson is playing for Vandoeuvre Nancy in the French professional league. Vandoeuvre Nancy secured a victory against Chamalieres, with Benson delivering solid receptions. Vandoeuvre Nancy will face Evreux in their next league match on Dec. 5.
