U.S. Women’s National Team Defeats Dominican Republic at FIVB World Cup

The U.S. Women’s National Team showcased their dominance as they defeated the Dominican Republic in a thrilling match at the FIVB World Cup in Sapporo, Japan. Led by Annie Drews’ impressive performance, the Americans secured a 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-9.

With this win, Team USA improved their overall record to 7-1 and solidified their position in second place in the 12-team round robin tournament. After a couple of rest days, they are set to face Russia on Friday in Osaka.

In the opening set, the U.S. built an early lead but faced a tough challenge from the Dominican Republic who came back to tie the game at 13-all. However, the American team showed resilience and closed out the set with a 25-22 victory, scoring the final four points.

The second set saw Team USA taking control early with a 6-0 run, extending their lead to 14-7. Although the Dominican Republic fought back, the Americans held on to secure a narrow 25-23 win.

The third set showcased the U.S. Women’s National Team’s dominance. They raced to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, ultimately clinching the set with a convincing 25-9 victory.

Annie Drews led the charge for Team USA, contributing 23 points with 18 kills, three blocks, and two aces. Chiaka Ogbogu and Michelle Bartsch-Hackley also made significant contributions, scoring 11 points and 10 points respectively.

The U.S. Women’s National Team will now look ahead to their upcoming matches against Cameroon and Korea as they aim to maintain their winning momentum in the FIVB World Cup.
