U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryout

The U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryout, held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, was a thrilling event. Over the course of three days, 235 talented athletes showcased their skills and aspirations for the national team. Led by head coach Karch Kiraly, the tryout was a massive success.

Courtney Schwan, an outside hitter from the University of Washington, shared her experience, saying, “This tryout has been an amazing experience. I am so blessed to get the opportunity to play with these amazing players. It is such a high competitive volleyball – everybody loves high competitive volleyball, the best kind of volleyball. It was a great learning. I learned a lot from the coaches – they have a great coaching staff here. I was so excited to be here.”

The tryout was not only for spots on the U.S. Women’s National Team but also for 60 positions on the U.S. Collegiate National Team. Additionally, athletes born in 1998 or 1999 were competing for spots on the 2017 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team.

Success in Italy

Two Team USA members, Kelsey Robinson and Nicole Fawcett, are making waves in the Italian Serie A1. Robinson, an outside hitter, and Fawcett, an opposite, recently transferred midseason to Italian teams. They have been delivering impressive performances on the court.

In a recent match against Azerbaijan’s Telekom Baku, Robinson and Fawcett’s team, Conegliano, dominated with a score of 25-13, 25-9, 25-16. Although they didn’t play in the match, their teammates put on a stunning display. Conegliano finished second in Pool A of the European Champions League, securing a spot in the Final Round.

Conegliano also clinched the Italian Cup title, triumphing over Igor Gorgonzola Novara with a score of 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23. Robinson and Fawcett played key roles in this victory, showcasing their skills and contributing to the team’s success.

Carli Lloyd, a bronze medalist from the 2016 Olympic Games, is playing for Pomi Casalmaggiore in the Italian Serie A1 league and the CEV Cup. Kim Hill, another bronze medalist from the 2016 Olympics, is competing for Turkey’s VakifBank in the Turkish League and the European Champions League.
