Beach Teams Show Strong Performances on Day 2 of Worlds

Five U.S. beach volleyball teams made their mark at the FIVB World Championships in Hamburg on Saturday, securing their first victories of the pool play. The U.S. women’s team of Alix Klineman and April Ross, seeded No. 5, dominated their match against Nicaragua’s Mendoza Reyes Swan Valeria and Lolette Eleonor Rodríguez Saunders, winning with a score of 21-8, 21-7. Ross spoke about their performance, emphasizing their determination to treat every match like the finals, while Klineman highlighted their positive attitude and how it set the tone for the tournament.

On the men’s side, the No. 7 U.S. team of Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb defeated Uruguay’s Mauricio Sebastian Vieyto Acosta and Marco Cairus Lucarelli, with a final score of 21-17, 21-13. Crabb expressed satisfaction with their performance, acknowledging that they had to figure out their opponents as they went along. Gibb, on the other hand, mentioned their familiarity with playing multiple matches in a day and his love for the heat.

The U.S. teams were not the only ones to secure victories. Sara Hughes and Summer Ross won a hard-fought battle against Ana Gallay and Fernanda Pereyra of Argentina, with a score of 21-18, 15-21, 16-14. Meanwhile, Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb had to fight back to defeat Iran’s Bahman Salemiinjehboroun and Arash Vakili, winning 13-21, 21-16, 15-9. Sarah Sponcil and Kelly Claes claimed victory over Russia’s Ekaterina Birlova and Evgenia Ukolova with a score of 21-8, 21-16.

The FIVB World Championships, in its 12th edition, will conclude with the women’s medal matches on July 6 and the men’s finale on July 7.
