The anticipation is building as the 2024 beach volleyball season kicks off with the upcoming FIVB Beach Pro Tour. Doha Elite 16: U.S. Pairs Set to Compete

While not the first event of the season, all eyes will be on Doha, Qatar, as the Elite 16 tournament takes place from March 5-9. The top U.S. pairs in the provisional Olympic rankings are gearing up for this highly-anticipated competition. Defending world champions Kelly Cheng/Sara Hugues and BPT Finals Champions Taryn Kloth/Kristen Nuss will represent the U.S. women. On the men’s side, Trevor Crabb/Theo Brunner, Miles Evans/Chase Budinger, and Tri Bourne/Chaim Schalk will be vying for a spot in the top 17 of the Olympic rankings.

Futures Mollymook: A Sneak Peek into the Season

Before the Doha Elite 16, the BPT officially starts with Futures Mollymook in Australia from Feb. 28 to March 3. Six women’s teams and three men’s teams will be representing the U.S. Women’s teams include Anna Donlan/Kelsey Bradburry, Avery Poppinga/Madison Shields, Delaney Peranich/Charlie Ekstrom, Adrienne Gibb/Victoria Shephard, Alaina Chacon/Mariah Whalen, and Tiffany Creamer/Katie Lindstrom. The U.S. men will be represented by Jordan Hoppe/James Shaw, Charlie Siragusa/Derek Bradford, and Ben Vaught/Kevin Coyle.

NORCECA Playoff No. 1: U.S. Pairs Compete for Glory

Last week, USA Volleyball held the first NORCECA playoff of the year in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Women’s pairs, including Deahna Kraft/Toni Rodriguez, Paloma Bowman/Samantha Parrish, Avery Poppinga/Madison Shields, Savvy Simo/Abby Van Winkle, Emily Day/Geena Urango, Tiffany Creamer/Katie Lindstrom, Delaney Peranich/Charlie Ekstrom, and Kylie Deberg/Hailey Harward, battled it out for a chance to represent the U.S. at upcoming NORCECA competitions. In the end, Deberg/Harward emerged as the victors, winning the playoff and securing their spot.

The men’s teams also put on a fierce display of talent and determination. With players like Tim Brewster/Kyle Friend, Evan Cory/Wyatt Harrison, Cody Caldwell/Avery Drost, Logan Webber/Hagen Smith, Caleb Kwekel/Jake Urrutia, Chase Frishman/David Wieczorek, Lev Priima/Charlie Siragusa, and Alex Diaz/Brandon Joyner, the competition was intense. Brewster/Friend ultimately triumphed, earning the top spot in the playoff.

Dalhausser and Crabb: A Golden Victory

The American duo of Taylor Crabb/Phil Dalhausser had a remarkable performance at the third stop on the 2024 GJ Gardner Homes NZ Beach Tour. They emerged as the champions, winning gold in Christchurch, New Zealand, without losing a single set throughout the tournament. Dalhausser, a four-time Olympian and gold medalist, and Crabb, a two-time AVP MVP, showcased their exceptional skills and captured the victory.

Rankings: U.S. Pairs at the Top

Several U.S. pairs have made their mark in the world and provisional Olympic rankings. Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss are currently ranked No. 2 in the provisional Olympic rankings for women, with Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes not far behind at No. 4. In the men’s rankings, Miles Partain and Andy Benesh share the No. 4 spot, Trevor Crabb and Theo Brunner sit at No. 11, and Miles Evans and Chase Budinger are at No. 12.
