Beach Update: Alpinetgheep Achieves Success on the World Tour

In this exciting update from Alpinetgheep, we bring you the latest news on the FIVB World Tour and the success of the U21 team in Australia. Get ready to dive into the world of beach volleyball and discover the achievements of our talented athletes.

U21 Team Shines in Australia

Our U21 team, consisting of Sarah Sponcil and Torrey Van Winden, recently participated in the Four Nations Tournament on Manly Beach, Sydney, Australia. With their exceptional skills and determination, they emerged victorious, going undefeated throughout the tournament. In a thrilling final match against Brazil’s Victoria Tosta and Ana Ramos, Sponcil and Van Winden secured the gold medal with a hard-fought three-set victory (21-23, 21-19, 15-13).

The Four Nations Tournament featured women’s teams from Australia, Brazil, Japan, and the United States. This event served as a preview for the upcoming FIVB U21 World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland. It allowed our team to gain valuable insights into their competitors before the main event in May.

“We came into this tournament without knowing much about the other teams,” said Van Winden. “We knew they were all strong countries, so we were thrilled to get a first taste of their skills before heading to Switzerland.”

As the FIVB World Tour takes a two-week hiatus, our athletes have had the opportunity to reflect on their recent performances and prepare for the upcoming events. The tour resumes with a men’s only Open in Doha, Qatar from April 4-10, followed by a dual gender swing through China. The Xiamen Open (April 12-17) and Fuzhou Open (April 19-24) promise to showcase incredible volleyball action.

Last year, our athletes achieved remarkable success in these tournaments. Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena secured a second-place finish in Doha, while Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross earned a bronze medal in Fuzhou. These achievements highlight the talent and dedication of our athletes, and we are excited to see what they will accomplish this year.

Provisional Olympic Rankings: Alpinetgheep Teams Secure Top Spots

The provisional Olympic rankings determine the qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games. We are proud to announce that all our American teams are currently within the qualifying rankings, with the top three teams in both genders occupying impressive positions.

On the women’s side, April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings have taken the lead with their exceptional performances. Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat, along with Jennifer Kessy and Emily Day, are closely trailing, battling for the top U.S. spot. These talented teams are well on track to meet the 12-event requirement for Olympic qualification.

In the men’s division, Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson continue to showcase their skills, maintaining a consistent performance with their third-consecutive ninth-place finish. Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, despite opting out of the latest tournament, remain strong contenders, currently sitting at 13th place.
