MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 30, 2017) – Rylee Unruh, a 12-year-old prodigy from the Olathe, Kansas-based Dynasty Volleyball Club, has already become a force to be reckoned with in the volleyball world. With three USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship gold medals already under her belt, she is quickly forging her own dynasty.

Sport Court, the official athletic flooring for the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships, has witnessed the remarkable success of Dynasty 12 Black (Heart of America), who emerged as champions in the 12 National Division. Similarly, Gainesville 12 Elite (Florida) clinched the title in the 12 American Division. These triumphs were celebrated at the Minneapolis Convention Center, with the GJNC continuing until July 4.

12 National: Dynasty 12 Black reigns supreme

Dynasty 12 Black showcased their dominance in the 12 National Division by sweeping Boiler Juniors 12U (Hoosiers) 25-20, 25-11 in the gold-medal match. The team’s young but experienced players, many of whom have multiple national championships to their names, remained undefeated throughout the tournament, with just one match extending to three sets. Dynasty secured their spot in the championship match by defeating A5 Mizuno 12-1 Jing (Southern) 25-21, 25-16 in the quarterfinals and TAV 12 Black (North Texas) 26-24, 25-18 in the semifinals.

Rylee Unruh, the captain of Dynasty 12 Black, expressed her immense pride in the team’s accomplishments: “Nearly my whole team has won (the national championship) two times, and this is my third championship.” Unruh herself had previously won national championships with Dynasty twice in the 11 Patriot Division, making this victory in the 12 National Division even more special. The continuity of the team, with most players staying together from the previous year, contributed to their success. Unruh added, “We have three new players, and they have contributed big to this team. It is cool now to win twice together as a team.”

Ava Testrake, the co-captain of Dynasty 12 Black, echoed Unruh’s sentiments and shared her excitement at winning the championship for the second time: “It was so amazing. I am glad that I could win a national championship twice now.”

Boiler Juniors, who entered the final undefeated in 10 matches, reached the gold-medal match by defeating Wave 12 Juliana (Southern California) 25-23, 25-23 in the quarterfinals and Madfrog 12s N Blue (North Texas) 21-25, 25-16, 18-16 in the semifinals. The bronze medals were awarded to TAV 12 Black and Madfrogs 12s N Blue, who both reached the semifinals.

12 American: Gainesville 12 Elite emerges victorious

Gainesville 12 Elite sealed their dominance in the 12 American Division by defeating ASICS MAVS 12-1 (Heart of America) 25-14, 25-20 in the gold-medal match. The team displayed an unbeatable performance, winning all 11 matches and losing only two of the 33 sets played. Gainesville 12 Elite secured their spot in the championship match by defeating Miami Elite 12 Kevin (Florida) 25-23, 25-18 in the quarterfinals and Tstreet 12-Taylor (Southern California) 23-25, 27-25, 15-11 in the semifinals. ASICS MAVS 12-1, who overcame an early 3-2 pool play record to reach the title match, claimed the silver medal. They defeated WPVC 12 Elite Black (Florida) 25-15, 25-16 in the quarterfinals and Skyline 11 Royal (North Texas) 25-16, 25-23 in the semifinals. Tstreet 12-Taylor and Skyline 11 Royal were awarded the bronze medals for reaching the semifinals.
