LMU’s Doud/Slattery Make the Most of Their Opportunity

The women’s field at the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships in Hermosa Beach is now down to four pairs competing in Saturday’s semifinals. While some athletes, like Claire Coppola/Kristen Nuss, Madison Fitzpatrick/Alaina Chacon, and Brook Bauer/Deahna Kraft, have already competed in the NC Beach Volleyball Championship, there are others who haven’t had the chance. One such pair is Emma Doud and Savannah Slattery from Loyola Marymount.

Unlike their counterparts, Doud and Slattery didn’t qualify for the NC Beach Volleyball Championship. However, they have made the most of this opportunity by participating in the Hermosa Beach Championships. This event not only provides them with a taste of the postseason but also allows them to play together, something they didn’t get to do during the regular season.

The pair entered the competition with no expectations but with a goal to have fun. They already had good chemistry off the court, and it translated well on the sand. Being underdogs in most situations actually worked to their advantage, allowing them to perform their best.

In the upcoming semifinals, Slattery/Doud will face off against Pepperdine’s Bauer/Kraft, who finished second in the tournament last year. In the other semifinal, Fitzpatrick/Chacon will play against Coppola/Nuss. It’s an exciting lineup, and Slattery is ready to fully embrace the beach atmosphere after some time adjusting back to playing on the sand.
