Mruzik Named Gatorade National Player of the Year

Jess Mruzik, a standout athlete from Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan, has been awarded the prestigious title of the 2019-20 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year. This recognition is a testament to her exceptional athletic prowess, academic excellence, and remarkable character both on and off the court.

Rising to the Top

Mruzik’s journey to this accomplishment began when she helped lead the U.S. Girls Youth National Team to a historic gold medal at the 2019 FIVB Girls U18 World Championship. Her remarkable performance caught the attention of a national advisory panel of experts and sports journalists, who unanimously selected her as the nation’s best high school volleyball player. This panel evaluated Mruzik alongside nearly half a million high school volleyball players nationwide.

A Stellar Record

Mruzik’s outstanding achievements extend beyond her national recognition. She stood out among 51 Gatorade State players of the year in volleyball, which included 15 All-Americans and 15 athletes with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Her exceptional skills and dedication earned her the title of Most Valuable Player at the FIVB Girls U18 World Championship, where she ranked 12th overall in scoring. Mruzik’s performance at this championship allowed USA Volleyball to secure its first-ever gold medal in age-group World Championship indoor competition.
