Danielle Scott Chosen for Inaugural USAV Courage Award

Danielle Scott

Danielle Scott, the legendary volleyball player and five-time indoor volleyball Olympian for Team USA, has been selected as the recipient of the first-ever Courage Award presented by USA Volleyball. This prestigious award recognizes Scott’s exceptional bravery off the court, where she displayed immense courage in the face of adversity.

In November 2018, Scott found herself in a harrowing situation when she bravely intervened to protect her sister Stefanie Vallery from her estranged husband, who was attacking her. Tragically, Vallery lost her life in the incident, while Scott sustained multiple stab wounds. Despite the danger, Scott selflessly put her life on the line to save her loved one.

The CEO of USA Volleyball, Jamie Davis, expressed his admiration for Scott’s actions, stating, “There are no words to describe how brave Danielle was on that fateful night last November. She exemplifies everything good about humanity, and we couldn’t be prouder to have created a new USA Volleyball Courage Award to recognize her heroic actions. She should be a role model for us all.”

After months of recovery, Scott has made significant progress and is now preparing to compete as a player-coach in the Open Division of the USA Volleyball Open National Championships, scheduled for May 24-29 in Columbus.
