Summer Ross Earns 2nd Player of Year Nod

In December 2018, Summer Ross, a talented beach volleyball player, received the prestigious title of USA Volleyball’s Female Beach Player of the Year for the second time in her career. At just 18 years old, Ross became the youngest person ever to be awarded this honor in 2010. She achieved this feat by winning both the FIVB U19 World Championship and the FIVB U21 World Championship, an accomplishment unmatched by any athlete before her.

Throughout the years, Ross has faced challenges and overcome obstacles in her beach volleyball journey. She initially had reservations about trying out for volleyball but eventually fell in love with the sport after participating in tournaments. In 2018, Ross experienced ups and downs, including a split with her partner Brooke Sweat. However, she seized an opportunity to team up with Sara Hughes, a decision she couldn’t refuse.

Ross and Hughes quickly found success on the domestic stage, winning AVP Tour events in New York and Hermosa Beach. They also secured second place finishes in Chicago and Waikiki. It was in August of that year when Ross and Hughes claimed their first international medals as a team, taking third place in Espinho, Portugal. They went on to win gold in Moscow and another third place finish in Yangzhou, China.
