WNT Update: Six Teams Advance at Champions League

Pool play for the women’s CEV Champions League has concluded, and several teams with U.S. players have successfully moved on. In addition, we have updates on U.S. Women’s National Team players competing worldwide.

CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Six teams with players from the U.S. Women’s National Team have advanced from CEV Champions League pool play.

Italy’s Prosseco Doc Imoco Conegliano, featuring outside hitters Kelsey Cook, Khalia Lanier, and Kathryn Plummer, along with setter Madi Bugg, dominated Pool D with a perfect 6-0 record, securing a spot in the quarterfinals. In their final pool match against Poland’s PGE Rysice Rzeszow, Conegliano emerged victorious with a score of 3-1. Plummer led the scoring with 21 points, showcasing her skills with 17 kills, one block, and three aces.

Middle Haleigh Washington and Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci also had an impressive run, winning Pool B with a flawless 6-0 record. Washington contributed to their success as a substitute in their final pool match against Türkiye’s Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul.

Meanwhile, middle Dana Rettke, outside hitter Kara Bajema, and Italy’s Allianz Vero Volley Milano secured the top spot in Pool A with a 5-1 record, advancing to the quarterfinals. In their final pool match against Türkiye’s VakifBank, Milano put up a remarkable fight but fell short with a score of 3-2.

Libero Justine Wong-Orantes and Germany’s SC Potsdam finished second in Pool C with a 4-2 record, earning them a spot in the playoffs. Wong-Orantes showcased her reception skills in their final pool match against Slovenia’s Calcit Kamnik, while U.S. middle Breland Morrissette and opposite Danielle Harbin also made valuable contributions.

Potsdam will face Allianz MTV Stuttgart, featuring middle Kayla Haneline, in the playoffs. Stuttgart finished second in Pool D with a 3-3 record, securing their spot in the next round. U.S. outside hitter Krystal Rivers performed exceptionally well in their final pool match against Belgium’s Asterix Avo Beveren, leading all scorers with 18 points.

CEV CUP

Italy’s Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76, with outside hitters Avery Skinner and Madi Kingdon Rishel, advanced to the quarterfinals of the CEV Cup after defeating Poland’s Grupa Azoty Chemik Police. In their second match, Chieri emerged victorious with a score of 3-2. They will now face France’s Volero Le Cannet in the quarterfinals.

CEV CHALLENGE CUP

Opposite Taylor Mims and France’s Neptunes de Nantes advanced to the semifinals of the Challenge Cup after defeating Greece’s Panathinaikos AC Athens. In their second match, Nantes won with a score of 3-1. Mims led the scoring with 21 points, while U.S. middle Jaelyn Keene also made significant contributions.

ITALY

Italy’s Prosseco Doc Imoco Conegliano continues to dominate the league with a perfect 17-0 record. In their last two matches, Conegliano defeated Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 and Aeroitalia Smi Roma, further solidifying their position at the top of the standings. Players such as Kelsey Cook, Khalia Lanier, Kathryn Plummer, and Madi Bugg have played an essential role in their team’s success.

Dana Rettke, Kara Bajema, and Allianz Vero Volley Milano have also been impressive, securing the second spot in the league with a 16-1 record. In their last two matches, Milano defeated Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76, with players like Bajema and Rettke leading the charge.

Savino Del Bene Scandicci, led by middle Haleigh Washington, swept Trasportipesanti Casalmaggiore in their last match with the help of setter Micha Hancock and outside hitter Simone Lee.

Honda Olivero S.Bernardo Cuneo, with middle Anna Hall and outside hitter Madi Kubik, faced tough competition but showed resilience in their matches against Megabox Ond. Savio Vallefoglia and Volley Bergamo 1991.

TÜRKIYE

VakifBank, featuring Ali Frantti, Chiaka Ogbogu, and Jordan Thompson, had a strong finish in their last two matches against Beşiktaş Ayos and Galatasaray Daikin Galatasaray Daikin. Their performance has solidified their position at the top of the standings with a 15-1 record.

Kuzeyboru, with outside hitter Sarah Wilhite Parsons, experienced some setbacks in their matches against Türk Hava Yollari and Fenerbahce Opet.

Opposite Stephanie Samedy and Muratpaşa Bld. Sigorta Shop displayed determination in their matches against Nilüfer Belediyespor and Aydın Büyükşehir Belediyespor.

JAPAN

Annie Drews and JT Marvelous continued their dominant streak, securing the top spot in the league with a flawless 16-0 record. They showcased their skills in their matches against the NEC Red Rockets and Prestige International Aranmare.

GERMANY

Potsdam, featuring Justine Wong-Orantes, had a remarkable victory against VC Wiesbaden. Allianz MTV Stuttgart, with Kayla Haneline, displayed their strength against VC Neuwied 77.

BRAZIL

Roni Jones Perry and SESC RJ Flamengo emerged victorious in their matches against Brazilia Volei and Unilife Volei Maringa, solidifying their position at the top of the standings.

Brionne Butler and Osasco Sao Cristovao Saude also showcased their skills in their matches against Bluvolei Furb SME and Brasilia Volei.

Jenna Gray and Gerdau Minas had a mixed performance in their matches against Dentil Praia Clube and Bluvolei Furb SME.
