Women’s Junior Team Begins Quest for Bid to Worlds

The U.S. Women’s Junior National Team is embarking on their journey to secure a spot in the highly anticipated 2017 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship. Competing in the Women’s U20 Pan American Cup held in San Jose, Costa Rica from May 8th to May 13th, this nine-team tournament brings together teams from the NORCECA and South America regions. The top team from each zone will earn a bid to the World Championship.

The team, led by Head Coach Jerritt Elliott, is excited about the challenge ahead and the opportunity to qualify for the World Championship. Group A of the preliminary round includes Team USA, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. Pool play matches against Argentina and the Dominican Republic are scheduled for May 9th and May 10th, respectively. Pool B consists of Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay, while Pool C features Chile, Cuba, and Peru.

The quarterfinals will take place on May 11th, followed by the semifinals on May 12th. The medal round is scheduled for May 13th. The U.S. team is well aware of the tough competition they will face, especially in their pool, but they are eager to give it their all and strive for victory.

Tham Khảo Thêm:  Americans Shine in NORCECA North Bay

Dominican Republic has already secured a spot in the 2017 FIVB Women’s World Championship, having won the NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship last summer. Argentina is also considered a strong contender for South America’s bid into the World Championship.

Despite the challenges ahead, the U.S. team is determined and optimistic. They have been working hard to come together as a team, although their training time has been limited compared to other countries. As an advantage, the Americans have a bye on the opening day of the tournament, which allows them to scout their Pool A opponents.

The U.S. roster is comprised of talented athletes such as Brionne Butler, Regan Pittman, Elle Sandbothe, Thayer Hall, Paige Hammons, Khalia Lanier, Mackenzie May, Holly Carlton, Mikayla Shields, Madison Lilley, MacKenzi Welsh, and Tiffany Clark. These players have demonstrated their skills and dedication, and they are ready to compete at the highest level.

If the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team qualifies for the FIVB World Championship, USA Volleyball will hold a training camp to select the final 12-player roster for the world championship.

With such a promising lineup, the U.S. team is determined to put their best foot forward and achieve their goals at the Women’s U20 Pan American Cup. This tournament is not only an opportunity for them to showcase their talent, but also a chance to measure their game level against other top teams.
