USAV Chooses 12 for Men’s U21 Team at Worlds

USA Volleyball has recently announced the selection of 12 talented athletes to represent the United States at the 2023 Men’s U21 World Championship. The tournament will take place from July 7-16 in Manama, Bahrain.

Training in Sofia, Bulgaria

Before heading to Bahrain, the team will spend some time in Sofia, Bulgaria, where they will train with teams from Brazil, Bulgaria, and Iran. This training camp, scheduled from June 30 to July 4, will provide the players with valuable experience and preparation for the upcoming championship.

Returning Players

Six players from the 2022 team, which won the Men’s U21 Pan American Cup and secured a spot in the 2023 World Championship, will be returning for this year’s tournament. These players include setter Andrew Rowan, outside hitter Zach Rama, middle blockers Nyherowo Omene and Wesley Smith, and opposites Trent Moser and Shane Wetzel.

Another six players from the U21 Men’s Team, which won silver at the NORCECA Pan American Cup in Havana, Cuba, will also be joining the roster. This talented group includes outside hitters Alex Rottman and Trent Moser, middles Nyherowo Omene and Owen Rose, opposite Shane Wetzel, and libero Ryan Merk.

Setter Island Doty and outside hitter Theo Snoey, who were alternates for the 2023 Pan Am Cup Team, have earned their place in the U21 Men’s Team. Additionally, outside hitter Dillon Klein, who was unable to train or compete in the 2020 Boys U19 Team due to the pandemic, is a new addition to the group.

Coaching Staff

The experienced Andy Read will lead the team as the head coach, with Rory Prager and Chris Seiffert serving as his assistants. They have been working hard to prepare the team for the challenges they will face in the World Championship.
